Lets Be a Change to India you want to see

* The Former President of India DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's Speech in Hyderabad .

Why is the media here so negative?

Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse acknowledge them--- Why?

We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit.

There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.

Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke,
The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say.. What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name - YOURS. Give him a face - YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road ) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity... In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU?

YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai .

YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah .

YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.'

YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, 'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.'

YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New
Zealand

Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston??? We are still talking of the same YOU...

YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India?

Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay, Mr. Tinaikar, had a point to make. 'Rich people's dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,' he said. 'And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels? In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same is in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.

We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin.

We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.

We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity.

This applies even to the staff that is known not to pass on the service to the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse?

'It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbor's, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU.

When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too...I am echoing J. F. Kennedy 's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians.....

'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA
AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA
WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY'

Jai Hind!!!!

Stop "Pseudo Secularism"

The amount of Pseudo Secularism now Practised in India by various parties are now becoming dangerous for peace & hormony of India. I found very nice comments from this unknown person on a Blog post.
I just want to share it with you.

The word appeasement is a wrong choice for what Congress and Samajwadi Party does. The right word to choose would be ‘hoodwink’.

Congress has been hoodwinking Muslims for the longest period and SP has been doing it now for 2 decades. Unfortunately, Muslims do tend to fall to these machinations out of the fear of BJP.

Kitapati:

It would be wrong to say that we can counter evil with bigger evil. If Gandhi taught us anything, it is that bravery exists in confronting your attacker and looking him in the eye without hitting him. Not cowing down, but to make him realize how foolish he is.

I know a lot of people think Gandhi’s teachings have no place in modern India, and I tend to agree with them on Gandhi’s economic policies. But, he was spot on in his choice of weapon in struggle. It suits the Indian temperament the best, that’s why he could summon Millions to raise up or quieten down, at his beck and call.

BJP need not always be bad. Under Vajpayee it atleast had some secular bearings. It’ll need to find that for it to be in contention for power in future. That’s very essential for India as its the only alternative we have to Congress.

RSS’s work as recently as with the Tsunami disaster was exemplary, so as an organization it does deserve to be supported – not banned as some suggest, even if one doesn’t agree with their ideology of nationhood.

But, the pariwar certainly need to understand that India will go Pakistan way, if we are to follow the muslim fanatiscism with Hindu fanaticism.

There simply must be a better way!

The Art Attack: Da Vinci to Hussain by Neelam Raaj

Today, I read the article by Ms. Neelam Raaj “The Art Attack: Da Vinci to Hussain” at Sunday times dated 23 August 2009. It was very shocking for me. I would not be so surprised or shocked, if the author would not be Indian. But this really hurts me. As when we do not respect our own culture or tradition or do not believe in us then how you expect others (other countries) to respect us.
The article was on attacks on the famous arts of the world by the different people. She given example of How Da vinci’s famous painting Monalisa came under attack from visitors and some more example of other painters. Then she come to great painter M F Hussain that he was also targeted in India by Hindu group because he made a painting of a Hindu goddesses in the nude and he has been in self imposed exile for the three years.

The way she wrote about it that it is very normal thing to paint without caring of the sentiments of the people. She gave the reason behind the attack: “some may be batty but most vandals do it just to attract attention”. Oh my god!!! Hello, Ms Neelam. You might be hardcore & blind lover of art in any form but give this statement from others point of view. We worship this goddess Saraswati. Countless Hindus are having faith in her. You cannot cross the limit for right to express. It is very common and easy to be neutral or unbiased when it comes to any Hindu things. What happened to Danish cartoonist who painted offensive thing about Prophet Mohammed? That cartoonist did wrong and had to apologize for it. I do not believe in violent protest but Mr. Hussain was very wrong in this case, no matter how big artist he is. He do not have the right to insult others belief in terms of portraying it as art. Why not you condemned Mr. Hussain as he must be knowing that what this will result before painting that. Wasn’t this also a publicity stunt or attract attention. Now you will say that he is such a big personality, so he doesn’t need attention. Madam, this is how you get famous day by day. Creating a controversy and add chapter on by one. It’s called negative publicity. Now, who doesn’t know Mr. Hussain will know him.

Forget this, I would like to give a simple example. It may be very offensive to you. Suppose Mr. Hussain would have painted yours Nude Picture and showcased in his art exhibition. You might not be offended of this as you are a great art lover and can accept art in any form but I am sure that your family and people will definitely be offended of this and will protest and strongly ask Mr. Hussain to put this painting out from the exhibition. So, this is the just case of a Human being whom very few people know. But imagine when crores of people believes and worship any goddess and someone insults it in the name of art, then how they would feel??????

Please write and condemned which will benefit society rather than supporting something which is very sensitive and hurts the belief of majority of people.

I would like to sincerely apologize in case I hurt you but I wrote what I felt.

We are Resilient By Force, Not By Choice!

I am big fan of Shahrukh Khan but the way Shahrukh episode was portrait as Anti-Indian or Anti-muslim is completely wrong. The United States are not a tolerant democracy like us which we are so proud of. “Kick us, Kill us but we’ll talk and condemn only”. And why not? we get pat on our shoulder from our big daddies US, UK to be tolerant, patient and resistant no matter how much we suffer and get killed. The 26/11 incident again shows the commitment of India towards curbing terrorism. This time they become more fearless. They entered and killed us in broad day light and openly engaged with Indian forces. But every one applauded the spirit of Mumbai to overcome this situation. What the hell is this spirit??? This is not the F****** spirit. This is the common people who have to come out for work so that they can feed there children and family in the costliest place of the world. They always have the fear of this that one day they can also be part of it. And this thing is misunderstood by State and central government that Mumbai can overcome of any situation. The dialogue of the film “a Wednesday” was very true that “we are resilient by force, not by choice”.
You never heard of second attack or any terrorist engagement in America. This is because of strong majors like this. If they wouldn’t then America would have faced regular terrorist attacks like India faces every day and lost many brave Jawans (military officer) in Kashmir and rest part of India. If the same episode happened in India it would become a minority politics. We have been weakened by many ways. Every strong steps to curb nuisance and terrorism here becomes anti-minority and politician are very comfortable about it. Specially the so called pretentious secular parties like congress, RJD etc as they do not want loose there muslim vote bank. I was stunned to hear that Afzal Guru hang is termed as anti-muslim in J&K. What the hell is this and how a government can be so tolerant to the terrorist and put hold on this, fear of vote fall. This can only be done in India and that’s why we are suffering.
These superstar plays their minority card when something happens against there will. Take example of Imraan Hasmi flat buying case. No journalist wants to know why flat was rejected and all blame to society in charge. Just got the bite & flashed. There are many issues to be raised to uplift the society and poor people. But no, why are multi millionaire denied the Flat. That really hurts the media and people. Our media is in very pathetic situation. They use their freedom of expression to the ugly extent. Although I there are some moments media really helped people to get justice but majority of time media is very partial.
I believe nowhere in the world, minorities get such importance than in India. All superstars remember there minority status when they are in trouble. The superstars like Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Saif Ali Khan etc. didn’t hear them of doing any good for the minority rather than verbal comments and condemning India in many important issues.
Talking like this would have termed me as non-secular or anti-muslim but I am speaking the truth I felt. I am not anti-muslim or non-secular. But there should be proper and equal justice to all the people of India rather than hindu bashing and blaming & snatching every rights from Hindu to speak and support there rights and culture which termed as non secular thing.
If we want to be real seculars then stop playing minority cards and accept the fault and cooperate with the administration to stop terrorism and violence and make India a better place to live.

Pardon me if something is wrong, I just speaked out the truth.

Expectation from New UPA Goverment

First of all, I would like to see some changes in So called Secular Government to come over of
1. Religion Politics by Seculars
2. Cast politics by Seculars

Implement Reservations basis of economical Condition. All the people of India should benefit from this reservation policy whether they belong to any cast or religion. This will benefit all Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Cristian etc. This policy will unite India and make India Secular in real sense than others.

The Government should concentrate more on rural area as Agriculture potential of India can not be neglected. Improve the Infrastructure of Village. Make a strong & good Policies for poor farmers so that they do not turn towards city leaving farming and improve the financial condition of farmers and to decrease suicide rate of Farmers (rather than just telling slogan * ka haath garib ke saath). As without food, no body can survive and lack of farming products the food price will increase which will increase the inflation.

Improvement and addition of Public transport & system, so that it will control the population of vehicles of the cities & make a good place to live.

Keep Check on Bangladeshi Nationals infiltrating into India and getting ration card, voter ID and SC/ST certificate illegally due to vote bank Politics.

Increase Internal Security & take strong major Step to counter terrorism without concerning of Religion politics by congress so far. Make some Sergical strikes in POK which world is also supporting.

Improve corporate LAW.

If they ask me for Suggestions. I just want to tell them to follow one golden slogan which is very needed for the todays condition of India.
"JAI JAWAN, JAI KISSAN"

FriendFeed Hoverlets (show your latest twitter feeds) #hoverlet2

After creating first hoverlet successfully, now I want to give Bloggers some extra value to there posts. I have made a friendfeed hoverlets which will give the latest feeds from twitter & friendfeed sites.

Like in my case usernames are iankits, bosky101 etc etc.

You can now see the the latest feeds of my iankits by just pointing your mouse over it.

This you can do by simply adding keywords as usernames of your & your friends of friendfeed.com. Then refresh your page & get the latest feeds! The readers can also subscribe to your feeds through it.
So, I guess this again gives you a value added service for the addict bloggers as well as publishers.

HAPPY HOVERIZING!!!! :)

For registering to hover.in, follow the link. http://login.hover.in

Keep clicking for more dynamic hoverlets!!! :)

Testing out GupShup Widgit by embedding it in Hoverlets #hoverlet 1

Hi,
Today in my company Hover.in, we have Hoverlet Day. U might be flummoxed that What is this hoverlet??? This is nothing but u can say bubble which popup on pointing mouse over a keyword defined by the user. It is a basically a value added service for the bloggers & web publishers.
I am trying to make some dynamic hoverlets for the company & users to use it on one click by defining multiple keywords for the getting it hoverized!

I found one widget which is very interesting to embed inside hoverlet. This Widget is of GupShup.
You can put any keywords like Cricket, Football, jokes, mango etc. for start access gupshup messages on the hoverlets.
You can subscribe to the SMS group of the gupshup thorugh the hoverlet.

But it API has some limitations.

To avoid Denial of Service attack, they have some limitations on Requests from one IP. Following are the Details.
Throttle timing Throttle Warn Value Throttle Limit Value
per Minute 25 30
per Hour 990 1000
per Day 9990 10000

Its a fun widget which also adds value to the user & increase user experience in funny way of giving out information.

Now , You can see the hoverlets shows on hover (over the keywords marked with blue bubble), you can experience the widget right now. Thanks to gupshup.com! :D
Keep clicking!

Documentation: Amazon S3 operations using Erlang

Documentation: Amazon S3

Written By: Sascha Matzke (sascha.matzke@didolo.com)

Documentation Author: Ankit Singh (ankit@hover.in or ankitsingh.05@gmail.com)

Modules: erlaws.erl, erlaws_s3.erl, erlaws_util.erl, erlaws.hrl

Motive: The erlaws*.* modules are not written by me. Sascha Matzke is the orginal creator of the modules. The motive to write this documentation is to make it easy to use. Due to lack of proper documentation, I struggled for 3 days to make it work. So, I decided to write a proper documentation for the future users and to make there life easy. I hope that I will make justice to the modules through this documentation. If I miss any point then please add to it.

Description:

Erlaws is a collection of client implementations of Amazon's WebServices offerings. Currently there are clients for S3, SQS and SDB written in erlang.

http://code.google.com/p/erlaws/

Build:

Check out the latest code from svn and issue erl -make to build the sources.

How to use erlaws_s3.erl modules?

(ankit@127.0.0.1)1> erlaws:start().

We have to start ceratain services like inets, sasl, httpd, httpc etc for using erlaws_s3.erl. For that we erlaws.erl code is provided

Likely gives output message when successfully started the gen-server:

=PROGRESS REPORT==== 19-Feb-2009::13:11:45 ===

erlaws_s3.erl

List of modules in erlaws_s3.erl :

create_bucket/2 create_bucket/3 delete_bucket/2 delete_object/3

get_object/3 info_object/3 instance/3 list_buckets/1

list_contents/2 list_contents/3 module_info/0 module_info/1

new/3 put_object/6

When open this program you'll see a line

-module(erlaws_s3, [AWS_KEY, AWS_SEC_KEY, SECURE]).

Its a parameterized modules. You have to instantiate to get module instance which can be used in a function call just like any module name. So, you have to pass above arguments given. Example

S3 = erlaws_s3:new("2R9TY8PSBSZK15YVE659","qbltwr2uA9uET2XXG5FRgZqSo1yD2jEc+3o0gEzs",false).

AWS_KEY = “2R9TY8PSBSZK15YVE659”

AWS_SEC_KEY = “qbltwr2uA9uET2XXG5FRgZqSo1yD2jEc+3o0gEzs”

SECURE = true/ false (true : httpc & false: http request)

NOTE: if you don't do this then the error will come in every function saying function not defined like list_buckets/1 gives error :

(ankit@127.0.0.1)3> erlaws_s3:list_contents("thumbs.hoverin").

** exception error: undefined function erlaws_s3:list_contents/1

Now, you can call above modules. Some Examples.

erlaws_s3:list_contents("bucket.hoverin",S3).

erlaws_s3:get_object("bucket.hoverin",[],S3). Or erlaws_s3:get_object(“bucket.hoverin”,”as.jpg”,S3).

erlaws_s3:info_object("bucket.hoverin",[],S3). Or

erlaws_s3:info_object(“bucket.hoverin”,”as.jpg”,S3).

For uploading use put_object. Will go through the required attributes with syntax & examples

Sample:

S3:put_object("bucket.hoverin","as.jpg",F,"image/jpeg",[{"x-amz-acl","public-read"}]).

F is the binary file to be sent. I read the files using file in erlang. Ex.

(hover1@0.0.0.0)47> {ok, F} = file:read_file("as.jpg").

{ok,<<255,216,255,224,0,16,74,70,73,70,0,1,1,1,0,72,0,72,>

0,0,255,219,0,67,0,5,3,...>>}

Attributes:

First – bucket name i.e bucket.hoverin

Second - Key name of the file to be given i.e as.jpg

Third - Binary file (example given how to make binary file of jpg or any other file) i.e F

Fourth – Content Type

Fifth – Meta Data or permission to be given to file. i.e [{"x-amz-acl","public-read"}]

Following are canned ACLs that are supported for REST.

  • private—Owner gets FULL_CONTROL.

No one else has access rights (default).

  • public-read—Owner gets FULL_CONTROL and the anonymous principal is granted READ access.

If this policy is used on an object, it can be read from a browser with no authentication.

  • public-read-write—Owner gets FULL_CONTROL, the anonymous principal is granted READ and WRITE access.

This can be a useful policy to apply to a bucket, but is generally not recommended.

  • authenticated-read—Owner gets FULL_CONTROL, and any principal authenticated as a registered Amazon S3 user is granted READ access.

For more information about the permissions & headers please refer the link given below :-

http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonS3/latest/index.html?RESTAccessPolicy.html

NOTE: In line 324 of the erlaws_s3.erl, I modified the code to work accourding to user requirements.

Follow the step:

-Comment this line

%%buildMetadataHeaders(Tail, [{string:to_lower("x-amz-meta-"++Key), Value} | Acc]).

-And paste the following line below commented line.

buildMetadataHeaders(Tail, [{string:to_lower(""++Key), Value} | Acc]).

I removed “x-amz-meta-” as when I run the program, the final header I get

“x-amz-meta-x-amz-acl” instead of only “a-amz-xcl”. Due to this, I was not able to access my files from Amazon S3 through URL intstead of files was present in the bucket.

You can add more meta Headers, if like to. For example,

S3:put_object("bucket.hoverin","as.jpg",F,"image/jpeg",[{“x-amz-meta-username”,”ankit”},{"x-amz-acl","public-read"}]).

Hope you find this document helpful for your Amazon S3 operations.

Have a nice day!
