High Integrity Systems, Fh Frankfurt

Master of Science in High Integrity System (HIS) program is taught in English in Fachhocschule University of applied sciences, Frankfurt am Main. To be very honest, this FH is not very well reputed in Germany but the course structure is awesome. But if you are not comfortable of maths then this course is strictly NO NO to you. ;) The plus point this FH is that this is the only university in the Frankfurt where Technical studies are there. Sometime it is also refered by Frankfurters are Frankfurt technical university.

This course is having too much mathematical stuffs like logics, Full of Statistics etc. When you start your studies in this HIS program, Professors assume that you work every day. One thing I get to know about this course is that you cannot F*** around. It will give you a toll on your master's studies. But yaa, Enjoyments on Weekends is must but if you stretch to long time then it will become problamatic. ;)

This Master's High Integrity System is having great future prospects. It can be categorized in two Parts:-

   1. Safety critical system:    Safety critical systems deals with the softwares which directly impact    the human lives if it fails like softwares for Aerospace, Aeroplanes, medical    field, Nuclear energy etc. If these software fails then it will be very    dangerous for human life or loss human life.

   2. Mission Critical Systems:    This is part impacts the day today life of the people. Mission critical    softwares are banks, databases, mobile technologies, aerospace unmanned vehicles etc.

so you can see, this HIS master program is having wide prospects and you can choose your field of interests.

Following are the List of latest Curriculum taught in HIS.

Semester I
    1. Safety Critical Systems
    2. Advanced Formal Modeling
    3. Introductory Data Analysis
    4. Real-Time Systems
    5. Implementation of DBMS
    6. Pattern Oriented Software Architecture

         Distributed Systems
    8. Advanced IT security
    9. Advanced Testing Methods
    10. Formal Specification & Verification

  1. Hi Ankit,

    Thank you for the information.
I am planning to apply for HIS, and I have 5 years of IT experience in Data analysis, Data warehousing and other web technologies. But my engineering degree is in Industrial Management, and I did study CS and Statistics subject like, MIS, Software Engineering, Operation Research, Simulation, ERP system etc. Do you think it will give edge to take admission? Or will be treated like alien degree. Please explain.
And please give information regarding job opportunities once I complete HIS. What would be the approximate cost tom complete the course?

    Thank you,
    Ranjan

  2. hi ankit,
i got admission into this course ,
can u tell me the job opportunities after completion of this course.

  3. First of all, sorry for replying late.
@Ranjan You have tremendous amount of exp. & well suited for High Integrity System. We learn here to develop softwares for interdisciplinary fields. The course is very promising. Data Analysis exp. is a Plus for this course as Data Analysis & statistics is used in every fields for software development. I struggle a lot to learn core statistics but due to the god's grace I am able to manage till now.

    @Ranjan @pradeep Job Oppurtunities:
As I told u, this course teaches u to develop high end safety & mission critical system for any field of your interest. No one gurantee your job as it depends on market & how u do. You job will mostly depends on the Final Master thesis u write as that will be your initial specialization after masters. Please go through my another post "study in Germany". I explained there.
But there are lots of opportunities to work after completion of HIS. For example, u can go into Aerospace software development, medical software development or may to into Banking sector for making mission critical softwares or in IT security field.... etc. there is not limit. IT TOTALLY DEPENDS ON THE INTEREST OF THE INDIVIDUAL.

  5. Hi Ankit

I got admission in this course for winter 2011. My goal is to do PhD in same kind of stuff after completing this Masters. Can you comment on getting PhD opportunity with funding in this university in same disciplines or anywhere else in Germany?

  6. Hi @anonymous, Congrats for the admittance. First of all,
-The university of applied sciences (FH) do not give Phd opportunities and generally, its bit tough to get Phd position, if you have a Masters Degree from FH in Germany. Generally, Universities and Technical universities degree's are considered first for Phd. I also wanted to do this but I came to know about this terms and condition when I came here. :( But I believe that if you have good background then also it will help you in getting Phd position and its easy to get Phd Position outside Germany with FH masters than in Germany.
    - As you can see from curriculum, masters in High Integrity System is not a specialization in one particular field of Computers but they are teaching all so that you can have firm idea to design and make a strong and robust IT system and software. So, you need to decide your field of specialization upon on your interest.

I hope I answered your Question. Please let me know if you have other queries which are not been cleared or mentioned in this posts, comments and other posts related to studies in Germany. Regards....

  8. hello Ankit,
I have secured admission in HIS frankfurt and MSc Computer Science (SAP) Heidelberg. I am confusion that which university I should select, I do have 1.5 years experience in SAP in India and have done B tech Computer engg.
    Please suggest.

    Thanks
    Parwinder

  9. Hi Parwinder,

First of all congrats for getting admitted to both course.

And 2nd, there should be no second thought for MSc Computer Science (SAP) Heidelberg. I strongly recommend for this course over HIS. And u must be knowing that Heidelberg is the birth place of SAP and u r having experience as u mentioned above. So, I am sure the SAP masters will be best for u and as far as I know, they also give u opportunity to work in the firm along with studies during the course. And paying fees is worth than studying free in Frankfurt as at the end opportunities matters at the end of the course.

You might get an idea about HIS from previous discussion above as this is not any specialization course but mixture of all. And classes r like schools in India. At masters level, studying everything sometimes makes things difficult and useless. As at the end, you will not be masters of anything like in Bachelors.

But last not the least, As I always keep on saying "it totally depends on the interest of an individual for the area of specialization".

I hope my suggestion will help u coming over confusion.

    Have a nice day!

  12. @anonymous Computer science in Paderborn is better than HIS Fh frankfurt. But depends on your interest.

@Jaya Please follow above question & answer. All your queries are answered several times and on the other post too.

  13. Hello Ankit,

I got acceptance both from HIS and University of Trento Master in Computer Science. I don't have much idea about the program in Frankfurt and about the university, but Trento seems to be a more reputable place. I am hesitating to choose Trento because I was once in Germany as an Erasmus exchange student and had experience in Saarbrücken. But I am not sure if the HIS program would meet my interests.. As you told there are much logics and maths and the specialization area is not restricted to one point.

Also there is one more point I wonder. FHs are more focused on practical work than theoretical work, so I expect the program to have strong connections in industry. What are the company options can a student find to write his/her master thesis? After completing the studies, is getting a work permit too hard in Germany?

    thanks!

  14. Hi Ankit,

My UG branch was Electronics engineering. I have total work ex of 3.5 years including 1.5 as .net developer in patni computer system and then 2 years of RF enginner with alcatel-lucent. I have both the admits of frankfurti i.e. HIS and IT and seriously mess up to choose one. I am quite impress with the HIS syllabus. IT looks very good but as my background and exp differs i am influencing a lot. I would like to take your opinion on this. as a current scenario i am good in maths but dont have programming exp of JAVA and C but i do know SQL and ORACLE. thanks in Advance...

  19. Dear @anonymous,

Thanks a lot. Well, to be very honest, I have no idea in accomodation for family. But I know that in my student hostel there are also rooms for students with family. You may apply there in advance. Its very hard to get good & cheap accomodation in Frankfurt. But you may get some accomodation outside Frankfurt area which doesn't matter due to good tranportation connectivity. Below is the link of my hostel company's website: http://www.fdh-studi.de/fdh_haus.html. You can checkout and apply there. In the mean time if I get some information, I will let you know. Please contact me personally via social sites mentioned in my blog profile. And I have no idea about English medium schools. Mostly, its in German.

    2. is there any facebook / blog community on HIS ?
    3. is library good enough to lend required books ?

    Thanks for updating.

  27. Hi Rohit,

I am answering in the same order of your questions.
    1) Yes, u will find many senior batches (Indians too incase ;) ) to get experiences now. :). So, you do not need to worry.
    2) I have no idea about that.
    3) Yes, Library will be more than enough. And I think more of the time you do not need to lend books but it depends on individuals.

I hope the answers are upto your expectations. All the best!!! :D
